Over a million iPhones have been sold. Have you: bought one, considered it, or decided it's not for you?
From what I've seen, iPhone is the best phone on the market... but it doesn't do the two things I need: 3G data services and Exchange ActiveSync. I've been using Windows Mobile 6 devices for almost a year and I'm completely addicted to over-the-air syncing of my mail, calendar, and contacts. I won't give that up, even for a shiny iPhone. In fact, my new phone is an AT&T Tilt, which I'll keep until Apple ships iPhone 2.0 with 3G data and EAS compatibility. Sigh.
Are there any podcasts that you never miss an episode of?
Submitted by Kadeeae.
I try to catch every episode of TWiT and MacBreak Weekly (yeah, I'm a geek). It's been a long time since I updated my podcast list. Any suggestions?
Not sure where my head has been for the last few months (buried in this, I'm sure). Regardless, I found this music video this morning for U2 and Green Day's New Orleans song, "The Saints Are Coming" and it's an impressive piece of work. The what-if scenario it poses takes me right back to early September, 2005 and that helpless, sad feeling. So disgusted with my government and so angry. Things have to change. Somehow.
I have no idea how trustworthy this guy is but the article is fascinating:
British Petroleum's "Smart Pig"
We watched the pilot last night for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," the new Aaron Sorkin show. If you haven't heard of it yet, it's Sorkin's behind-the-scenes view of life at a popular sketch comedy show (as in: SNL) and it's his return to TV after bailing on The West Wing a few years back.
The big question is: can Sorkin still muster up the same smart, fearless writing style that made WW and SportsNight such fun to watch? Yes, yes he can. Nobody writes better dialog than Sorkin and he proves in with this pilot. The fast, witty banter is loads of fun and it's nice to see him get back into the rhythm.
And no punches are pulled, either. Matthew Perry's character at one point says of Pat Robertson's 700 Club, "throw in the Halloween costumes and you've got yourself a Klan rally" and later makes reference to shows with two people masturbating being less embarassing than what's usually on television. Everybody Loves Raymond it isn't.
The cast is big. Lots of names and faces to recognize. And they all seem to work well. Amanda Peet's network president appears to be a great role for her and another smart female role from Sorkin. Perry's and Bradley Whitford's characters share a tight friendship and they manage to develop it quickly in the 1-hour pilot.
We were able to watch the show thanks to my sister's Netflix account. Apparently NBC and Netflix are providing early access to the show. Got Netflix? Go get this DVD now. The show premiers sometime in Sept. I think.
Andy was here overnight on Monday. We've seen each other only once or twice in the last year and then only briefly, so it was nice to spend a little time with him before he heads to Parts Unknown again.
We were finally able to exchange some gifts we'd been hanging onto for the last year. His gifts were extraordinary. First, was a tiny pocket book of photos he'd taken in Palestine (thanks iPhoto). Beautiful work, man.
The second was the book you see at right. The book itself is going to be a great read but it was the off-the-cuff remark in the card that made it all the more special. The note said he'd picked it out for me while book shopping with Mordechai Vanunu. Don't know Vanunu? Read about him here. This is the guy who shared Israel's nuclear weapons secrets with the English in the '80s and was imprisoned a few times by the Israelis for being a traitor.
Gifts are great, but gifts with stories attached are even better. Thanks, Andy.
Not sure how I missed this but I just saw it over at Ben's blog: Project Runway has a video mash-up tool. Yup, you can now edit your own Runway video using their video clips from current and past seasons. Very slick. One downside is that you can only email links to your video to friends, you cannot embed it in your own site or within a blog entry. Bummer. Regardless, it's a great tool and a nice compliment to their existing video library and show blogs.
What's your cell phone's ringtone? What made you pick it?
Heh. I used to have the Rubberneckin' remix by Elvis and Paul Oakenfold, and also Peaches by the Presidents (just to bug Julie). But I recently switched to a custom edited version of Bananaphone by Raffi. It's just one of those songs that comes up in rotation when we play stuff for Mary and I thought it'd be funny. She likes it. Cracks me up every time it rings. Heh.
